Food Safety.gov provides federal food safety information such as how to keep food safe, information on food poisoning, inspections and compliance, news and events, and  multimedia and educational materials.  You can ask their experts questions regarding food safety, report a problem, and find your state specific agency regarding food safety.  Highlights may include turkey thawing and roasting charts in light of the coming holidays.

This website provides statistics and summaries, college material from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), supporting research regarding the dangers of college drinking, and other alcohol information such as frequently asked questions, tips for cutting down on drinking and ways for parents to talk to their child about alcohol.  It also provides specific information for college presidents, college parents, college students, high school administrators, high school parents, and high school students about alcohol.

 

MayoClinic.org

Mayo Clinic provides information on medical services, education, research, and health information.  More specifically, their nutrition and healthy eating information offers basic information, in-depth information, multimedia, expert answers, expert blogs and resources about health and nutrition .

 

My Pyramid.gov

My Pyramid.gov, considered the center for nutrition policy and promotion,  is an organization of the U.S. Department of Agriculture designed to improve the nutrition and well being of Americans.  It’s two main goals are to advance and promote dietary guidance for all Americans, and conduct applied research and analyses in nutrition and consumer economics.  Special features include a dietary guideline for Americans, food guidance system, health eating index, food plans, and nutrient content of the U.S. food supply.

 

American Heart Association

The American Heart Association provides both general and specific information for patients, caregivers, health professionals, researchers, and scientists regarding healthy treatment, and nutrition.  Their many dietary tips are not just for those concerned with  heart health, but can be applied to anyone interested in health benefits.

 

Eating Well: Where good taste meets good health

This is a great site when looking for new, healthy recipes.  Eating well provides recipes, menus, information on healthy cooking, nutrition information, and food news.

Cooks.com is a recipe search site that provides recipes for appetizers, beverages, breads, cakes, candies, casseroles, cookies, eggs, fish, holiday recipes, international recipes, Italian dishes, main dishes, meats, Mexican dishes, poultry, pies, pastas, salads, sauces, soups and vegetable recipes.  Other features include cooking times, diet and health reports, and nutrition facts.

 

Delish

Delish provides many recipes, menus, blogs, news and events, cooking shows, party and holiday ideas, cookware and gadgets, coupons and deals and games all centered around food.  Not only are the recipe ideas great, delish provides videos that actually show you how to make features dishes.


Health Recipes.com: Healthy living at its best

Health Recipes.com is yet another website I go to for healthy recipe ideas.  Not only can you download free cook books, their site provides ideas for home and gardening, healthy recipes, and help for overcoming overeating.

 

Betty Crocker

Betty Crocker is known for its amazingly delicious food, but this website isn’t useful just for its recipes.  Their “how-to” section provides a wealth of information for cooking basics, baking basics, how-to videos, charts, and guides for those a little less competent in the kitchen.
